How Is Induction Cooker Electricity Cost Calculated?

The calculation is simple. Wattage divided by 1000 gives the rated power in kilowatts. Multiply that by the average power level you actually cook at to get the effective power. Effective power × daily cooking hours = daily units (kWh). Daily units × the days you cook per week ÷ 7 × 30 = monthly units, and monthly units × your electricity rate = the monthly cost. Example: a 2,000W cooker at a 60% average level runs at 1.2 kW; 1.5 hours a day is 1.8 units daily, about 54 units a month — at ৳10 per unit that is roughly ৳540.

Does an Induction Cooker Always Use Its Full Wattage?

No. The wattage printed on the box is the maximum. In real cooking the thermostat and power control cycle the coil on and off, and most dishes are cooked on low or medium heat. That is why this calculator asks for an average power level — estimating with the full wattage alone would show a bill much higher than what you actually pay.

Factors That Affect Induction Cooker Electricity Consumption

  • Selected heat level — the biggest factor by far
  • Daily cooking duration
  • Cookware size and material
  • Whether the pan bottom is flat and sits fully on the zone
  • Food quantity being cooked
  • Cooker efficiency
  • Your electricity tariff slab

How to Reduce Induction Cooker Electricity Cost

  • Use flat-bottom, induction-compatible cookware
  • Match the pan size to the cooking zone
  • Cook with the lid on — it noticeably cuts cooking time
  • Avoid higher heat than the dish actually needs
  • Prepare ingredients before switching the cooker on
  • Use residual heat — switch off a little before the dish is done
  • Keep the cooker surface and pan bottom clean

Induction Cooker vs Infrared Cooker

Induction heats the pan itself through a magnetic field, so it is faster and more efficient but needs magnetic-base cookware. Infrared heats a ceramic plate that works with almost any pan, at somewhat lower efficiency. দুটির পার্থক্য, খরচ ও কোনটা আপনার জন্য ঠিক — বিস্তারিত দেখুন আমাদের Induction vs Infrared Cooker comparison guide-এ।

Frequently Asked Questions

How many units does a 2000W induction cooker use?

At full power a 2000W cooker draws 2 units (kWh) per hour. Real cooking rarely runs at full power — at a 60% average level it uses about 1.2 units per hour, so 1.5 hours of daily cooking comes to roughly 54 units a month.

How much does an induction cooker cost per hour?

Multiply the effective power by your electricity rate. A 2000W cooker at a 60% average level is 1.2 kW, so at ৳10 per unit one hour of cooking costs about ৳12. The calculator above shows the figure for your own wattage and rate.

Does an induction cooker consume more electricity?

No — induction transfers heat to the pan more efficiently than most other electric cooking methods, so less energy is wasted. The monthly bill depends on wattage, the heat level you use and how long you cook each day.

Is induction cooking cheaper than LPG?

It depends on your electricity tariff and the local cylinder price. Use the Compare Cooking Methods section above with your own numbers — for many households the two come out close, and induction adds precise control and no cylinder changes.

Can I use an induction cooker every day?

Yes. Induction cookers are built for daily cooking. Keep the vents clear, wipe the glass after use and avoid running an empty pan, and the cooker will handle regular family cooking comfortably.

Which cookware works on an induction cooker?

Flat-bottom pans with a magnetic base — stainless steel or cast iron. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan, it will work on induction. Aluminium or copper pans without a magnetic base will not heat.

What electricity rate should I enter?

Enter the per-unit (kWh) rate printed on your electricity bill. Bangladesh uses slab-based tariffs, so if you want a safer estimate use the rate of your highest slab. Taxes and demand charges are not included.

Is the calculated cost exact?

It is an estimate. Actual consumption varies with heat level, cookware, food quantity and tariff slabs, which is why the result also shows a realistic lower–upper range of about ±15%.
